Mecca Bingo Employee, Fined For Finding Work His Own Way

by Penny Walker

Once again the UK finds itself in a position where unemployment is at an all-time-high. It has been quite literally decades since they had so many unemployed, and budget reforms are indicative of this. One recent Mecca Bingo new employee found himself on the unemployed list, and became a little more innovative asbout his job search. After trying all the normal employment routes for a year, he decided to post "Work Wanted" posters all over his home town of Hull.

One of the local Mecca Bingo managers saw his work wanted ad and arranged for the 20 year old lad to be interviewed inspired by his initiative. This was a brave move for young Daniel Bird, and after being interviewed and a position becoming available, the boy got his job in the local bingo hall. Not long after starting his job, a letter came through the post and Daniel Bird found himself being fined seventy-five quid for using his brain. The local council issued the fine which he had to pay within two weeks. The fine was because he pasted up "unauthorised" fly posters at various locations on more than one occasion!

Steve Jones, the Mecca Bingo Hall manager, once again came to the rescue and said the company was more than happy to pay the fine on the lads' behalf. The local council responded by saying The council has an obligation to act and issue a fixed penalty notice - this is a measured and appropriate response to the fly posters being stuck up. So much for initiative being rewarded by the powers that be?!

At least Mecca Bingo has some sort of reality on the problems of unemployment in the UK, and this young man has a job which was no easy feat to find. Chances are he will value it more than some of the unemployed might, he will probably end up taking Ian Burke's job!
